The Georgia Historical Society is Georgia’s first and only statewide historical society. Founded in 1839 and headquartered in Savannah, GHS tells the story of Georgia by collecting and preserving artifacts and documents, publishing scholarship that explores our past, and implements exciting educational programs that promote a better understanding of our history and the people who make it.
